IF - Mask
My idea for this weeks Illustration Friday topic is based partly on a conversation I had with a friend over the weekend. My friend Derek is my oldest and closest friend from way back in grade number 3, and a talented writer. We were discussing the balance of working full time while developing a second, artistic career, and the polar-bear plunge into freelancing.
Pursuing a new career is certainly not a decision to be made lightly, but everyday Pickledog is persuading me to put away the ol' Graphic Artist mask, and put on a new Freelance Artist mask. How can I say “no” to that face?

lol Pickle Dog. Very cool. :-)
I wish I could do freelance too...shame I'm still new in the game. Heh!
Nice work and good luck with the freelance gig...it is definitely a bit of a scary step for a myriad of reasons but well worth it if you can make it work...
It's nice to have a scapegoat.. er.. dog. I love the aged painterly style you use!
Fantastic piece! Love the way it came from a conversation!
Great illo, david! awesome as always!! Love your masks! Thanks for stopping by!

Sorry, blogger is acting up and am not able to sign in....
I love this. It is definitely not an easy decision. I think your work is fantastic and when you do take that plunge you are going to knock em' dead or maybe knock their socks off! Either way you will be great! Cheers!

P.S. I liked the cigarette on my raccoon too. I was torn. Maybe I'll put it back in and post it...
Great one David...
I take it the "sad, beat up" mask is the freelance mask?... *Cause you know, at least graphic design usually pays the bills ;)
Nice site btw

You certainly have the talent, good luck with the freelance. Freelance definitely has it's benefits; however, there are pros and cons to everything. Hang in there.
AWESOME wicked design!! coool concept!
Listen to your inner dog. He knows best!!
Kittymeow - Glad you enjoyed it.
Brine Blank - Thank you, it seems like the first step is the scariest part.
Candybandit - Thanks, and don't worry about Pickledog. The only thing he gets blamed for is eating the last cookie.
Ellen - Thanks, it just seemed to fit with this weeks theme.
Michelle - Thank you. I just updated to the new Blogger dealie, and I am finding it rather buggy too.
Holly - Thank you so much, glad to see you back.
John - Thanks man.
Derek - Thank you for your help this week.
Ariel - Thank you, I'm not sure which mask is which some days, but I do enjoy paying the bills.
Nate - Thank you for the encouragement.
Alina - Thank you, always great to have you visit.
Studio Lolo - he hasn't steered me wrong yet. Thank you.

I've certainly been in that situation. One advice I got that made me take the polar bear plunge was that you can always go back to your fulltime Graphic artist-mask whenever you choose to.
Great illo!
terrific job. Good luck with your new career! You'll be great!
Cheers,
Theresa
Very cool, love it as always
Love it as usual. There are a lot of people around here who have a few different masks they hide behind.
By the way David, I've tagged you!
You do what you want, but just so you know. (I was tagged by Sweat Pea... and it goes on from there).
Must be a lot of those random thoughts flying around, had a chat like that with a friend of mine just last night.
Love the lil' clock on Pickledog's collar. It may indeed be time...
yeay for green doggies!!!
Nice work! I still hope get to my "tagged list"...
Hi, it's me, Klu, the Bloggin' Bear.
I'm kinda 'barrassed to write to you cuz you're a grownup and I'm just a little bear. But I just wanted to tell you I like your pictures a lot.
That's all.
Sincerely,
Klu the Bear
